Replacing the multistage centrifugal blowers with APG-Neuros’ turbo blower resulted in an efficiency gain of 22.7%

The Water Quality Control Plant (WQCP) replaced one of its centrifugal blowers with a new APG-Neuros turbo blower. The new turbo blower supplies the majority of aeration for one of the trains in the two parallel trains of activated sludge treatment process.  With the use of a single high-speed centrifugal impeller, the new blower technology offers significant energy savings and a wider flow turndown.

APG-Neuros’ Turbo Blower reduces energy consumption, while improving the working environment

The City of Watsonville replaced one of its centrifugal blowers with a new APG-Neuros NX Series turbo blower combined with replacing its coarse-bubble diffusers with more efficient fine bubble aeration diffusers. The new turbo blower supplies the majority of aeration, while the three remaining centrifugal blowers serve to meet peak flows and provide redundancy.

Retrofit upgrade project confirms energy savings at wastewater treatment plant

The City of Orange Cove is an agricultural community in Fresno County that is located along the eastern foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Through value engineering and the assistance of incentive money from their utility provider, the WWTP pursued various upgrades; including the addition of one NX75 (75HP) blower to replace their aging and inefficient multistage centrifugal blower. The post installation report administered through the CalPOP program, verified that the aeration system upgrades had an annual savings of approximately $53,557.

Decrease energy consumption, noise level, heat generation, and high maintenance costs

King County, WA replaced its multi-stage centrifugal blowers with APG-Neuros turbo blowers at the South Treatment Plant in Renton. Retrofitting their old agitation air blowers aligned with their ongoing strategic efforts to protect water quality, and decrease energy consumption in all King County facilities by 20 percent by 2020.

High energy consumption and limited and inefficient operation

LOTT Alliance secured a Puget Sound Energy (PSE) grant to replace its existing Positive Displacement blowers with Dual Core High Efficiency APG-Neuros turbo blowers which resulted in 100 HP power reductions and savings of around 300 HP based on the plant’s average operation.

Inefficient Operation & Turndown

NAPA Sanitation District’s consultant QuEST and Herwitt Engineering conducted a study on replacing the plant’s Multistage Centrifugal blowers to address their inefficient operation, operational inflexibility and high energy consumption. Following the recommendation of the study, NAPA Sanitation District replaced their existing blowers with the High Efficiency turbo blowers which helped them secure a rebate by CalPOP.

City of Vancouver replaced one of its constant-speed Hoffman multistage blowers, which was inefficient due to its limited turndown, with an APG-Neuros turbo blower which reduced the energy consumption by 39% and had 0.8 year payback.
